Cowslip Cottage Sleights North Yorkshire

Cowslip Cottage is a beautiful three-bedroom holiday cottage set in the pretty village of Sleights, just minutes from Whitby and the Yorkshire Coast. We love it for the cosy ambience, the breath-taking views of the Eskdale Valley from the glazed balcony and the gorgeous master bedroom with free-standing bath. It’s the perfect luxury holiday cottage near the Yorkshire Coast.

From the moment you arrive at Cowslip Cottage you have an immediate sense of how much its owner Joe loves this cottage and the local area. The quality of the interior speaks volumes with its Farrow & Ball colours, Cole & Son wallpaper and chunky oak furnishings. And so too does the gorgeous welcome hamper and well-researched local guide – you just know you are going to have a wonderful holiday here!

The accommodation is set over three floors in this fabulous luxury cottage. On ground level there is an entrance hall and handy downstairs cloakroom. This leads onto a lovely open plan kitchen/dining area with a large family table at its heart. There’s a solid granite work-top to prepare food on and the cupboards are stocked with the finest Wedgewood crockery, crystal glassware and Le Crusuet dishes. Just beyond you’ll find the sitting room where a cosy wood burning stove nestles under the inglenook fireplace.

French doors lead out to a large private glazed balcony with patio furniture and stunning views of the Eskdale Valley below. Take your morning coffee here while the steam trains of the North York Moors Railway puff along on their way to Whitby and Pickering far below you.

Contemporary entertainment is provided in the form of a SMART TV, an iPod dock and iPad for guest’s use, Bluetooth speakers, ceiling surround sound and a library of books, CD’s, DVDs and Blu-ray discs.

The accommodation in Cowslip Cottage is set over the first and second floors. A King-size room and a twin bedroom is on the first floor, along with a family shower room and WC. The sumptuous master-bedroom also has a king-size bed and occupies the whole of the second floor and features an en suite WC, a gorgeous free-standing bath and those amazing views of the valley below.

All of the bedrooms are dressed in the finest 660 Thread Count Egyptian Cotton bed linen and boast comfy pocket sprung mattresses and SMART LCD TVs. You’ll also find complimentary Elemis toiletries in the bathroom and huge fluffy bath sheets to snuggle up in.

Outside, in addition to that fabulous balcony, this luxury cottage near the Yorkshire Coast features a built in BBQ. A heavenly spot for al fresco dining in the warmer months…

Local Area

The location of Cowslip Cottage is fantastic. Perched on the hillside of the beautiful Esk Valley in the village of Sleights, you can be hopping on a steam train at Grosmont or feeling the sand between your toes on Whitby’s beach within minutes.

Sleights itself is a peaceful little place with a scattering of shops and places to eat. Just along the road from the cottage you’ll find a traditional and welcoming village pub with cask ales, hearty local food and a log fire to keep you warm and toasty in the colder months. And if you decide to eat in you can pick up some excellent local produce from the bespoke butcher and Deli in the village, Radfords. If you are enjoying this luxury cottage near Whitby with children there is also a lovely children’s park a short walk away.

A few miles east from the cottage takes you to the stunning North Yorkshire coastline, a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is proper bucket ‘n spade territory. That’s not to say it’s stuck in the past, in fact the coast’s villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars.

Although you could happily spend the weekend mooching about the independent shops, bars and cafes along Whitby’s bustling medieval streets, it’s well worth striking out to sample some of the other coastal villages nearby. Robin Hood’s Bay is one of the most popular coastal locations in Yorkshire, or the UK for that matter. The village is a maze of cobbled streets and higgledy piggledy houses which seem to tumble down towards the sea. Sandsend, Staithes and Runswick Bay are also all within easy driving distance, each with their own unique charm.

Head west from the cottage and you can be in the heart of the North York Moors within minutes. Take a tour of the impossibly pretty towns and villages in the area, Egton, Danby, Castleton, Rosedale…Or head up on the high moorland of Castleton Rigg, we guarantee on a clear day it will take your breath away. Suffice to say this area is a walker’s paradise and many suggested routes are provided for you in the cottage.
